How should you choose your five electives?
Compare the actual codes in the course offer with the skills you want to develop.
The national package requires five electives, with at least three drawn from the listed options. A provider does not necessarily offer every listed unit or allow individual substitutions.

These are listed options in Release 2, not a claim that a provider offers all of them. Unit titles alone do not describe full assessment requirements or establish work authorisation.
What should a provider explain?
- The five codes in your actual enrolment offer.
- Which are listed or imported and how the package meets the rules.
- How each choice fits your learning goals.
- Resources, support and assessment for the chosen units.
How can you connect electives to a learning goal?
Use the actual unit code when discussing a choice. The listed options include FNSFMB511 for preparing credit contracts for settlement, FNSMCA413 for individuals experiencing hardship, BSBTEC302 for spreadsheets and FNSFMB513 for clients with special financial circumstances. These are learning options, not permission to give advice or undertake every task in a job. Confirm availability and the full assessment requirements.
- Should I choose the settlement elective?
- Can I choose an elective about helping people in hardship?
- Would spreadsheet study be useful in my elective choices?
- Can Certificate IV electives include more complex client cases?
What changes if an elective is imported?
At least three of the five electives must come from the qualification’s listed options. Up to two can come from eligible Certificate III or higher qualifications or accredited courses, subject to the packaging rules. Ask the provider to identify each imported unit, explain its relevance and show that outcomes are not duplicated. Do not assume you can substitute a preferred unit after enrolment.
